white painted beachy stripe chair
So, you all so beautifully commented on the pink stripe and I totally ignored you and went for the beachy stripe and put this in the sitting room at the front of the Beach Cottage, not the bedroom at all. But I will be covering the other chair in the pink and putting it in my bedroom for my clothes to pile up on, when I get the strength to continue my Upholstery Journey.
This chair, though loved by someone else in a former life, was not behaving for me at all and got very close to being thrown out on the lawn. You can take it from me that this was not really easy but it was worth it. I have no idea what I might pay for this kinda chair should I happen upon it in a boutique but I'm fairly certain it would be more than the $20 I paid for it and the $15 I spent on fabric. I cannot put a price on my whining all the way through it though and I hate to admit it but the Beach Cottage air was errrm peppered with blue for a bit.
Now I'm well-pleased with it, but I get the feeling that it's smirking at me, ha ha ha I played up for ya baby & you worked really hard to get me looking like this didn't ya, it seems to say as I walk past.
If you want a chair for $35 that looks like it might well have cost you a lot more than that and looks pretty hot in your white Beach Cottage then I'd say go buy yourself a cheap old upholstered chair and have a go. If you have half a brain I would say on your first project with upholstering take the much easier route and try a chair without a swinging back, avoid a stripe and get a glue gun that costs you more than the chair did.
Your blog is making my heart ache for home... love your colour schemes.. the chair is fab. A million miles from where I am.

Oh, it looks AMAZING! Great choice. I love how the birdcage and blue candle are drawn right in with the fabric.

Trial and error is the best teacher. I had a similar chair that had been my grandmothers and was covered in a hideous fabric. I used a damaged white bedspread and it turned out OK. Amazing what we can do if we just try.

THIS TURNED OUT AMAZING.I'M SO SMART,HAHA.REMEMBER,I TOLD YOU TO USE WHAT "YOU"LIKED BECAUSE "YOU"LIVE WITH IT.BUT THIS FABRIC LOOKS GREAT ON IT.I WANTED THE PINK TOO,REMEMBER?THIS LOOKS SO GOOD IN YOUR THERE.LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE THERE.I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WOULD COST EITHER,BUT IT'S LOOKS LIKE A MILLION BUCKS.
I WISH I HAD YOU HERE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.DH AND I RE-COVERED ONE OF 2 CHAIRS WELL OVER A YEAR AGO.WHAT A MESS------------[THAT WAS ME SCREAMING.]THE 2ND CHAIR STILL-HASN'T BEEN RE-COVERED.I GUESS IF IT EVER GETS RE-COVERED IT'LL HAVE TO DO IT ITSELF.HA...ANN

Ahhh, Sarah, it looks fantastic, even if it was much harder than you thought. I've never done a lot of that, just stapling seat covers on, but you make it look easy. I think that's the stripe I voted for too.

Looks fabulous. I have recovered many chairs and have yet to tackle a swing back, I applaud your great work....I think I would be swearing too much if i tried to use stripes on a swimg back chair...yikes! You did a great job and I can't wait to see how the pink chair one comes out if you find the strenght to do it! :)
cheers~

Sarah, it looks fabulous!! You did a great job reupholstering it. That is hard to do, I've done it and it's not my favorite thing to do. I love the stripes in there.

great job! Instead of a glue gun, for your next birthday or Christmas ask for a small air stapler, and a small air compressor. I got one for Christmas a few years back from jerry and you can upholster like a pro!!!!!! They are light weight and easy to use you do all kinds of projects with it!!!!!

Sarah you crack me up! I think the chair looks amazing!! Love this fabric. Now, if the chair keeps talking to you like it is OR if it starts moving on it's own, I really want you to seek help. LOL.
The striped fabric really pops in your living room. GREAT choice!!!

Well that old saying "you get what you pay for" does not apply to this chair. I've seen chairs that were not half as nice as this one in some of the shops around here and believe me they want hundreds of dollars for them. You did a fantastic job and all of your hard work has paid off.
Looks great!!!
Have a happy day.

That looks great! I've had a few projects that I just wanted to throw out in mid process too! I think you end up appreciating those items even more because you put sweat and tears into them!

It turned out great! I voted for pink but so glad you used this one instead. You are so smart!!! :o) I am taking your advice...in search of a chair to give it a try!!! hopefully it will turn out a quarter as good as yours! Fingers crossed!

Too funny for the chair to have a personality but sure turned out beautifully. The stripes look great in your beachy room. Thanks for sharing the story with us all.

This turned out lovely! I'm sure the other chair will look stunning also! :) Oh, BTW, love the birdcae with the candle. I have one very similiar, only it is blue, as a centerpiece in my cottage dining room. Can't wait to see pics of your other chair.

You did a fantastic job on that chair. It really looks great. It would have cost lots more than your $35.00 I can certainly hear that it wasn't so much fun to reupholster through. i don't think I could do that.
Well just sneer back at that chair cuz you won! it looks gorgeous.
I'll be interested to see what you do with the other fabric.
It was nice to have you visit...
Oh our snow is pretty much gone today and it has warmed up some too so thats good. It really was too early for that nonsense...and next time..I'll try to send you some..*s*.
Have a good day

Oh, I love your chair and even tho it was hard to do, it sure looks worth all the work...it's perfect for your lovely home...
oh, and i love the look of all the magazines stacked beneath your white painted sewing machine....it is a sewing machine, right? or maybe just a table...ANYWAY, I am fixing to stack my mags beneath a table TODAY...looks great!

Yay! Beachy stripe, beachy stripe! :-) Wow, it looks grand! I'm sorry it gave you troubles, but WOW was it worth it! I hear you on the stripes. I took a sewing class recently and chose the striped fabric (to make a bag with), as I figured it would be easier...that it would sort of give me a grid to follow. WRONG! I was the last one sewing that night.

Wow! You inspire me. I love the slipcovers. I buy painters tarps, wash a few times in hot water to soften them up and then have slipcovers made. They are very durable! My have lasted 10 yrs.

I just love the white on white look you have-its so calming and beautiful- I wish I could do the same but I'm just not daring enough! I'm always afriad my beach cottage will look more like a mental institution! LOL You're photos are very inspiring, maybe one of these days I'll toughen up and give it a try!
